In a significant diplomatic development, US Special Representative Thomas West has pledged support for Pakistan’s position regarding the operations of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

West said, “Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan poses a substantial threat to the peace and security of the region. We recognize that TTP has been using Afghan territory as a base of operations against Pakistan.”

West emphasized that even after TTP was expelled from Pakistan, it continued to actively engage as a supporter of the Afghan Taliban. He noted that there is a significant alignment between the Afghan Taliban and TTP, both in terms of operational coordination and financial support.

“Pakistan has consistently demonstrated its commitment to regional peace,” Special Representative West remarked, acknowledging Pakistan’s role in addressing various security challenges in the region. He specifically highlighted Pakistan’s proactive efforts in identifying security issues and addressing the complex matter of Afghan refugees.

This declaration of support from the United States underscores the shared concern over the use of Afghan territory for destabilising activities and the necessity for international cooperation to address these challenges.
