Various DISCOs seek Rs1,795 billion from federal govt

ISLAMABAD: Multiple power distribution companies (DISCOs) have collectively requested Rs1,795 billion from the federal government to meet various expenditures including staff salaries.

The Lahore Electric Supply Company has sought Rs852 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25, while the Islamabad Electric Supply Company has sought Rs400 billion, the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company Rs501 billion, and the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Rs41 billion for the same period.

These requests, submitted under the multi-year tariff framework, seek to cover expenses such as salaries, benefits, wheeling charges, and other operational costs.

Additionally, the Quetta Electric Supply Company has petitioned for over Rs236 billion for the years 2024 and 2025, while the Gujranwala Electric Supply Company seeks Rs313 billion and the Multan Electric Supply Company PKR 160 billion.

The Peshawar Electric Supply Company has requested Rs67 billion, Sukkur Electric Power Supply Company Rs350 million, and TESCO Rs92 billion, with their applications encompassing various expenses including salaries, benefits, post-retirement benefits, operation and maintenance costs, and wheeling charges.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is slated to conduct hearings on April 2 and 3 to deliberate on these applications.
