WAPDA Hydro Union workers protest outside Peshawar press club

PESHAWAR: Members of the Wapda Hydro Union took to the streets of Peshawar today, staging a protest outside the Press Club.

The demonstration was sparked by a recent attack on personnel from the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), which left one official dead and another injured.

The protesters blocked Press Club Road, bringing all types of traffic to a halt. The union has also announced a three-day mourning period in honour of the deceased official.

Amidst the growing tension, the demonstrators vowed to escalate their protest if the assailants are not apprehended. “If the killers are not arrested, we will widen the scope of our protest,” warned the protesters.

Earlier, On Friday, the PESCO employees had staged a protest with the body of lineman Kamran Khan on the road at the Karnal Sher Khan Chowk, blasting the law enforcement agencies over their failure to provide protection.

Kamran along with his colleagues, Hassan Mohammad and Luqman Khan, was returning from duty when a motorcyclist opened fire on them in Nawab Banda area of Maneri Payan on Thursday. Kamran succumbed to his injuries, while his colleagues were injured.
