WEB DESK: Punjab’s Local Government Department Minister, Zeeshan Rafique, has vowed to ensure a safe environment for the public by safeguarding underground water quality.
Collaborating with the World Bank, the department is initiating groundbreaking projects, establishing wastewater treatment plants across 11 cities for the first time.
In conjunction with UNICEF, the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) has successfully concluded a pioneering initiative to cleanse wastewater ponds in Sheikhupura.
The strategy to repurpose sewage water reservoirs will be systematically expanded.
Minister Rafique articulated these plans during a seminar organised by PMDFC at GOR Officers’ Mess, focusing on wastewater pond purification.
The event was attended by Special Secretary of the Local Government Department, Asia Gul, Managing Director of PMDFC, Syed Zahid Aziz, as well as research experts and educators from various institutions.
According to The News, in his address, Minister Rafique commended PMDFC for convening a seminar of such significance.
He stressed the government’s commitment, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, to combat pollution and ensure standardised sanitation facilities.
