Water supply in Karachi restored on temporary basis

KARACHI: Water supply to Karachi from Dhabeji Pumping Station has been restored after a power breakdown early this morning, according to a K-electric spokesperson.

Water supply to several areas in the city was suspended Monday morning due to a power breakdown at Dhabeji Pumping Station.

K-electric spokesperson in a statement said, that the water supply from Dhabeji pumping station to several areas has been restored temporarily and all main pumps are functioning.

Efforts are being made to rectify the fault, he said.

Water supply temporarily suspended in Karachi

According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) spokesperson, a power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station caused two main water supply lines to burst.

High pressure has led to damage in 72-inch Line No. 1 and Line No. 5 due to which the : city’s water supply has been reduced by 100 million gallons per day (MGD), the spokesperson said .

Emergency repairs are underway. Line No. 5 is expected to be fixed within the next 24 hours, according to the Chief Engineer.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Shah Faisal Colony, PECHS, Sindhi Muslim Society, and Old City areas are facing water shortages due to the breakdown.

Efforts are underway to restore electricity and resume water supply, and citizens are advised to conserve water during this period, the spokesperson added.

Around 80 to 90 percent of Karachi is expected to face a water shortage due to the disrupted supply.
