Water supply temporarily suspended in Karachi

KARACHI: Water supply to several areas in Karachi has been suspended due to a power breakdown at Dhabeji Pumping Station.

According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) spokesperson, due to a power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station, all pumping operations at the station have been suspended. Due to the suspension of all operations water supply to several areas of Karachi has been temporarily suspended

Efforts are underway to restore electricity and resume water supply, and citizens are advised to conserve water during this period, the spokesperson added.

Around 80 to 90 percent of Karachi is expected to face a water shortage due to the disrupted supply.

Millions of residents are now reliant on private water suppliers, who charge exorbitant rates for water tankers.

In December 2024, Karachi experienced a six-day water outage caused by a leaking pipe at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
