ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Chief Meteorologist Dr Sardar Sarfaraz issued a warning on Saturday, citing an elevated risk of cyclones and lightning strikes across the country due to extensive rainfall.
The chief meteorologist stated that the heightened risk of cyclones stems from the “convergence of sea breezes” with cold winds. Residents living in coastal areas of Pakistan along the Arabian Sea are particularly as risk.

Similarly, the meteorologist said that lightning strikes are expected to increase due to the arrival of storms, especially in regions prone to rapid temperature fluctuations.
The chief meteorologist attributed the uptick in the current weather phenomena to climate change. He stated that increasing global temperature has led to a notable rise in atmospheric humidity levels. For every one-degree Celsius rise, humidity levels surge by 7 to 10 per cent.
The Met Office advised residents to remain vigilant and adhere to official weather advisories.
During a cyclone risk, residents should keep themselves updated with weather update, prepare a bag with essential items such as food and first aid kit, follow government’s evacuation orders, and stay indoors away from windows.
