Weather update: Met Office warns of heavy rains


Lahore rain relief

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings for severe rains across the country from Friday till Sunday, urging residents to take precautionary measures.

As per PMD, heavy rains are expected to bring the risk of flash floods in local water inlets of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, and Kashmir, as well as hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Heavy rains may also lead to urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar during this period.

Landslides are likely to disrupt roads in vulnerable points of hilly areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad

Friday is expected to bring rain, accompanied by wind and thundershowers in Islamabad and nearby regions.

Punjab

Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Sahiwal are likely to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers on Friday.

Heavy rain may occur in some areas, with isolated thundershowers expected in Bhakkar, Layyah, Taunsa, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur.

Balochistan

Most districts in Balochistan will experience mainly hot and humid weather. However, rain, wind, and thundershowers are expected in Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and surrounding areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Rain with strong gusts of wind are expected in Balakot, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Swat, Shangla, Batagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber, Bajaur, and Waziristan.

Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir

Areas in Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms in a few places.

Sindh

Most districts in Sindh will have hot and humid weather conditions. Rain accompanied by winds are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, and surrounding areas.
