Weather update: Landslides warning issued in KP, GB and northern Punjab


Met Office warns of possible landslides in KP, GB and northern Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned residents and travelers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), northern Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) of possible landslides due to heavy rainfall late on Friday.

As per PMD, areas particularly as risk are upper KP, Murree, Kashmir, Galiyat and Gilgit-Baltistan during Friday night and and throughout Saturday. The rainfall poses risks at vulnerable points and will affect travel routes.

There is also a high possibility of strong winds, hail, and thunderstorms with lightning, that can damage standing crops, loose structures such as electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.

The Met Office advised residents and farmers both to exercise caution.

Throughout Friday, citizens across Pakistan experienced rain accompanied by wind in northern Pakistan, Punjab, Islamabad, and north Balochistan. Meanwhile, intermittent snowfall was observed over mountains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Hailstorms were also reported in isolated areas of upper KP and Kashmir.

On the other hand, dust storms affected the southern regions of the country.

Sunday weather update

According to the Met Office, intermittent rain accompanied by winds is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, and north Balochistan.

Snowfall over mountainous regions in KP, GB, northern Punjab including Islamabad is expected as well. While isolated areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir will experience are expected to receive hailstorms.

Meanwhile, dust storms are expected in southern Pakistan, particularly southern Balochistan and Sindh.
