We’ll get through this together: Mohsin Naqvi on river Sutlej’s unprecedented flood in 35 Years

LAHOTR: Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, stated on Saturday that rescue operations were in progress in response to an unprecedented flood in the Sutlej River, which is being described as the most severe in 35 years.

As per the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), the Ganda Singh Wala area is currently experiencing an exceptionally high flood level in the river, and this critical situation is expected to persist. The FFD has projected that the Sutlej River at Sulemanki Headworks will likely reach a “high to very high flood level” within the next 24 hours. Additionally, the Islam Headworks is predicted to face a high flood level from August 22 onwards.

Mohsin Naqvi took to Twitter today to share that approximately 278,000 cusecs of water are rushing near the Ganda Singh border in Kasur. He assured the public that the government is closely monitoring the unfolding situation. Naqvi also clarified that the discharge of water was originating from the Indian side

“Visited flood-affected areas and relief camps today. Appreciation for district Administration, Rescue 1122, Police, and Irrigation teams for their 24/7 efforts over the past 3 days,” wrote Naqvi

“This flood is unprecedented in 35 years, but our teams are on the ground, dedicated to securing and helping our people. Insha Allah, we’ll get through this together,” he added.

Due to the flood currents originating from India, the Sutlej River has overflowed, endangering numerous villages in Pakpattan. Authorities have requested heavy machinery to protect the road network and contain the situation.
