ISLAMABAD: Due to the recent Internet issues and glitches, several international companies, including WhatsApp are packing up from Pakistan and moving their operations abroad.
WhatsApp, the world’s leading instant messaging platform, has shifted its session server routing abroad due to recent internet disruptions in Pakistan, according to media reports.
Confirming the news, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed that WhatsApp’s decision to move its Content Delivery Network (CDN) out of the country has led to service disruptions.
Many users are experiencing difficulties in connecting and maintaining stable communication.
PTA, however, claimed that internet services have improved across fixed-line and mobile networks nationwide.
Over the past month, fixed-line internet services have advanced by two tiers, with Pakistan now ranked 139th globally in fixed-line internet speed.
Mobile internet services have also improved, moving up three tiers to rank 97th globally in mobile network speed, according to the PTA.
2AFRICA CABLE PROJECT TO RESOLVE PAKISTAN’S BANDWIDTH ISSUES
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the launch of the 2Africa cable project will address the country’s bandwidth challenges.
Spanning 45,000 kilometers, the 2Africa project is the world’s largest submarine cable network, connecting Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. It features 46 landing stations across 33 countries, including Pakistan.
In Pakistan, the 2Africa cable will land at Hawkes Bay in Karachi’s Keamari Town, with Trans World Associates serving as the local operators. The cable’s route passes through the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, circling Africa, and reconnects to Europe via the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
Pakistan has faced persistent internet slowdowns, with submarine cable faults frequently cited as the cause. The issue has particularly impacted over two million freelancers, who contribute significantly to the country’s economic growth.
