Windstorm havoc: boat capsizes, five dead in separate incidents


KHANPUR / ISLAMABAD:  A powerful windstorm wreaked havoc across parts of the country on Thursday, overturning a tourist boat in Khanpur Dam and causing multiple casualties in weather-related accidents.

According to DSP Khanpur, a boat carrying tourists capsized in Khanpur Dam due to high winds, leaving six people — among them women — struggling in the water. Five individuals were rescued with the help of local divers and sailors, while a search continues for one missing youth amid darkness and difficult weather conditions.

Windstorm triggers blackout in twin-cities

Rescue 1122 and police teams have launched a search and rescue operation. The capsized boat has since been pulled to the shore.

Wall collapses from windstorm

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the village of Saradhana near Khanpur, a wall collapsed during the windstorm, trapping children under debris.

Rescue officials said three children—identified as Abdul Rehman, Taha, and Bilal—were injured.

Abdul Rehman later succumbed to his injuries at the tehsil headquarters hospital.

Motorcycles collided due to winds

Another fatal accident occurred on Pambala Road, where strong windstorm led to a head-on collision between two motorcycles. A youth identified as Mudassir Hussain, a resident of Gilgit, lost his life in the crash.

Elsewhere at Khanpur Lake, a female tourist fell into the water due to sudden gusts. She was rescued and moved to hospital for treatment.

In a fourth incident, deadly windstorm caused a massive pine tree fell across Marchabad Road in Khanpur, injuring a motorcyclist who was trapped beneath it. The tree also brought down HTV lines and electric poles, causing a traffic jam and widespread power outages across the area.

In Azad Kashmir’s Sudhanoti district, a young man was reportedly killed after being struck by lightning during the storm.

Strong winds sweep two in Islamabad

In Islamabad’s Sumbal police precincts, two construction workers died and two others were injured after falling from the second floor of an under-construction house amid strong windstorm. All victims were shifted to hospital, police said.
