Clarification on winter vacation extension notification for Punjab schools

winter vacation in punjab 2024 official notification

LAHORE: Recent reports circulating on various social media platforms regarding the extension of winter vacations in Punjab schools and colleges have caused confusion among the public.

It is essential to clarify that the information being shared widely pertains to a notification from the Lahore High Court (LHC) in December 2022, and there is currently no confirmation of a similar extension for the year 2023.

According to the reports, the Lahore High Court (LHC) delivered a verdict following its concise order from the previous day, extending winter vacations due to the prevailing smog and fog conditions.

In a comprehensive two-page written directive, Justice Shahid Karim instructed the Punjab Education Department to issue a notification officially announcing the extension of winter vacations.

The written order explicitly mentioned that this extension applies to all educational institutions, including schools and colleges.

However, it has come to light that the misunderstanding stems from a notification released on December 28, 2022, when the Lahore High Court announced the extension of holidays.

Regrettably, the news circulating on social media and news outlets incorrectly suggests that the notification is for 2023.

As of the current date, Friday, December 29, 5:30 AM, there is no confirmation of an extension of holidays for Punjab schools in 2023.

It is important for the public to note that, if Punjab authorities decide to extend winter vacations for schools and colleges in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and other cities, an official notification will be released and made public.

Until then, there has been no official confirmation of any extension for the academic year 2023.

For accurate and up-to-date information, it is recommended to rely on official announcements from the official authorities and avoid the spread of potentially misleading information on social media platforms.
