Winter vacations to begin on December 20 across Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Secretary Schools Khalid Nazir Wattoo has said that the winter vacations in the province will begin from December 20.

Wattoo said that the holidays in educational institutions will continue until January 10, 2025.

This time, there will be 20 winter vacations in Punjab schools.

SMOG SITUATION

Earlier in November, the provincial government had issued notification to shut down the schools in several districts, including Lahore, as part of anti-smog efforts.

Schools in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala were shut down, along with issuance of SOPs for students, teachers and parents on dealing with the hazardous air quality.

The closure of schools was aimed at protecting students from the harmful effects of smog. It also helped in reducing the traffic at rush hours and helped in alleviating pollution.

However, the academic activities continued over online classes during the smog lockdown period, to prevent loss of educational time for the students.

ROADS CLOSURE

Since Sunday, some of the main roads in Lahore and other major cities have been blocked with containers and other obstacles to prevent the opposition party activists from marching towards the federal capital.

Early on Monday morning, news reports showed that the blockade was eased, and Lahore’s metro bus service was also made partially operational.
