Zac Goldsmith lashes out at Khawaja Asif over his remarks

LONDON: British politician Zac Goldsmith, brother of Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima, hit back at Defence Minister Khawaja Asif over his controversial remarks.

Khawaja Asif in a tweet had alleged that “Operation Goldsmith” was underway to secure the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, claiming the effort was backed by Israeli forces.

In a sharp tweet, Goldsmith dismissed the accusations as baseless and “absurd.”

Mocking Khawaja Asif Goldsmith said, “This is the actual Defence Minister of Pakistan… a grown man. He has invented something called ‘Operation Goldsmith,’ which apparently recruits people… I’m not sure what for, but it sounds awful and VERY Jewish.”

Zac Goldsmith also clarified he has only visited Pakistan once, has never funded political activities in the country, and praised Khan for his integrity.

Khawaja Asif had earlier labeled Khan an “Israeli asset” and accused the West of supporting efforts to free him.

He warned that Pakistan, as a nuclear power, would safeguard its interests. The minister’s comments sparked criticism from international figures, including Richard Grenell, a close ally of former US President Donald Trump.

Grenell termed Asif’s remarks reckless and called for a reassessment of US aid to Pakistan.
