Zardari calls for taxing big landholders

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari has advocated for taxing large landholders, citing it as a condition set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Speaking at a seminar held at the Professor Waris Mir Memorial in Lahore, Asif Ali Zardari mentioned that Benazir Bhutto used to seek advice from Professor Waris Mir.

Zardari said that he has endured more media criticism than anyone else, underscoring his support for press freedom while condemning its misuse.

He also expressed concern about influential groups in the Muslim world attempting to sow division. He mentioned that Narendra Modi’s wealthy associates have established a media network supportive of Modi’s agenda.

In his criticism of the government, the President remarked that while they are increasing income tax, nation-building requires not just finances but also effective prioritisation of resources.
