Aleema Khan faces legal action over ‘anti-state activity’

LAHORE: The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, in connection with an inquiry into alleged anti-state activities on social media platforms.

The agency directed Aleema Khan through a formal notice to appear in person at the NCCIA’s Lahore Zone office in Gulberg-II on Thursday, July 17, at 11:30am.

The NCCIA operates under the Ministry of Interior and is tasked with investigating digital offences, including those related to national security.

The summons, issued under inquiry number 2531/25 dated July 15, states that her presence is required to record a statement in her defence.

Sources claimed that the agency suspects Aleema Khan of being involved in online activities deemed harmful to the state, and the investigation is ongoing.

The notice warns that if Aleema Khan failed to comply with the summons, it will be assumed that she has nothing to present or state in her defence.

The non-compliance may also result in further legal action against Aleema Khan under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), warned legal expert.

On the other hand, the hearing of Toshakhana case scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled, Imran Khan’s counsel announced in an X post.
