A petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Ghulam Mustafa Rind alleges that his nomination papers were unfairly rejected following his ‘abduction’. He has urged the court to nullify the notification of Aseefa Bhutto’s uncontested victory and has called for a by-election, scheduled for April 21.

On March 29, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced Aseefa Bhutto’s unopposed election as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-207, after three candidates withdrew their nomination papers.

Aseefa Bhutto assumed the National Assembly seat from Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), which became vacant after her father, Asif Ali Zardari, was elected as the 14th President of Pakistan. The Returning Officer (RO) confirmed that initially, 11 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the by-election. However, the paprers of only four candidates, including Aseefa Zardari, were approved after scrutiny.
