Bushra Bibi fears husband being ‘poisoned’ in jail

LAHORE: Former first lady Bushra Bibi has written a letter to the caretaker Punjab government expressing her worries about the safety of her husband, former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman, while he is incarcerated in Attock District Jail.
According to a media report, the letter, dated August 17 and addressed to the Punjab home secretary, calls for PTI chairman’s transfer from Attock Jail to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. This request comes due to Bushra Bibi’s concerns about Imran Khan’s well-being, citing two previous attacks on his life.
“Moreover, it is apprehended that he may be poisoned in the jail through food as the ones responsible and perpetrators of previous attacks are still at large and have not been captured by the law enforcement agencies,” the letter read.
As per the media report, she added that her husband was also being denied the right to consume homemade meals.
Earlier, Punjab Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imran Kishwar claimed that Bushra Bibi, put up fierce resistance when police reached their Zaman Park residence to arrest the former prime minister following a court verdict in the Toshakhana case.
According to the police officer, police had to force their way to enter the house ultimately by breaking the doors before they arrested the PTI chief, Jang newspaper said.
Kishwar claimed that Bushra Bibi hurled expletives at the police officers.
The PTI chairman was arrested on August 5 after Islamabad sessions court judge, Humayun Dilawar, handed down a verdict against him.

The conviction, under section 174 of the Elections Act, entails a three-year sentence to jail and a five-year disqualification from running for public office.
The former premier was shifted to was later transferred to Attock jail.
