ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that consultations were under way for the finalisation of a name for the slot of the caretaker prime minister.
Talking to a delegation of journalists in Islamabad, he said that there was no hesitation in finalising the name of the interim prime minister.
When questioned about the president’s letter regarding the appointment of the caretaker prime minister, Sharif responded that he couldn’t fathom and that it was beyond his comprehension.
The premier asked the president to read the constitution and act accordingly.
During the meeting, he addressed several key topics, expressing his thoughts and intentions on critical issues concerning the country.
Reflecting on the past 16 months, Sharif termed it the most challenging period of his life. “The intricacies of governance, political dynamics, and external pressures combined made it an arduous phase,” he said.
Regarding international agreements, he stated that if the IMF deal hadn’t been finalised, the country would have been in a state of turmoil.
The period during the negotiations with the IMF was particularly tense and uncertain, he said.
Blaming the previous government for damaging relations with the United States, Sharif acknowledged the strain that had been caused by their policies.
However, he expressed a commitment to restoring and improving diplomatic ties with all countries, especially those considered friendly nations.
