Chaudhry Tanveer

RAWALPINDI: A local court on Wednesday approved a two-day physical remand of PML-N leader Chaudhry Tanveer in connection with the murder case of former MPA Chaudhry Adnan, who belonged to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

Civil Judge Ahsan Raza heard the remand plea filed by police, who had sought seven days of physical custody to recover a mobile phone from the suspect. The court ordered the accused to be produced again on July 20 with an investigation progress report.

The case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station against Chaudhry Tanveer for his alleged involvement in the killing.

On Tuesday, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan rejected the bail application, following which law enforcement officers arrested Chaudhry Tanveer from the court premises.

The case has drawn public and political attention due to its sensitive nature and the high-profile individuals allegedly involved.

According to the FIR, Tanveer, his son MNA Daniyal Chaudhry, and Chaudhry Changez Khan were nominated in the case on the complaint of Adnan’s in-laws. The complaint links the murder to a long-standing political and property dispute.

Chaudhry Adnan, 48, was shot dead on February 12 near Jinnah Park while returning home to Jhanda Chichi. He had just attended a meeting at a housing society’s office regarding a land dispute.

Two armed assailants on a motorcycle reportedly approached his black SUV at a traffic signal and opened fire, hitting him in the neck and face. He died on the way to Benazir Bhutto Hospital. The FIR states that Adnan had ongoing tensions with Tanveer and others. He had reportedly expressed fears for his life and had named the individuals he believed would be responsible if anything happened to him.
