ECP convenes meeting to discuss reserved seats verdict implementation

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has scheduled an official meeting on Thursday, July 18, to discuss and implement a recent Supreme Court decision. The meeting will take place at 11 AM at the ECP office.

During the meeting called by the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, the ECP Secretary, along with the Heads of the Elections and Legal Wings, will provide a briefing. Various aspects of the Supreme Court’s order will be reviewed for implementation.

The Supreme Court overturned the decisions by the Peshawar High Court and the ECP with reqards to allotment of reserved seats, mandating that those seats be allocated to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Additionally, the Supreme Court recognised PTI as a legitimate party in both the National and Provincial Assemblies. In response, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court regarding the allocation of these reserved seats to PTI.
