ECP registers 3 new parties

ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially registered three new political parties as preparations for the upcoming general elections continue.

The newly registered parties are the Hisar Muslim Party, Apni Party Pakistan, and Haq Do Tehreek Balochistan. With these additions, the total number of registered political parties in Pakistan now stands at 171, according to an ECP spokesperson.

According to ARY News, the necessity of new delimitations following the 2023 census for the forthcoming general elections was discussed in a recent session chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Attended by four ECP members, the secretary, and the legal team, the session focused on the implications of Article 51 and Clause 17 of the Election Act. The legal team emphasized the need for new delimitations after the census and deemed it “inevitable” for the upcoming general elections.

The ECP is expected to reach a decision soon regarding the initiation of new delimitations based on the recommendations of the legal team. This step is seen as a significant aspect of the electoral process to ensure fair representation and accurate allocation of constituencies.
