LAHORE: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) candidate Sanam Javed’s bid for signatures on Senate nomination papers from the prison.
The case faces a setback as the request put forward by Sanam Javed’s father has been rejected by the Election Commissioner of Punjab. The decision comes amidst a contentious debate over the eligibility of candidates currently incarcerated.

ECP’s Punjab office firmly stated that it does not hold the authority to approve signatures on documents for candidates confined in jails. This ruling has cast a shadow over Sanam Javed’s aspirations, prompting her father to seek recourse through legal avenues.
Earlier, PTI announced that it will nominate Javed and Yasmin Rashid – both currently in jail – for upcoming senate elections.
