ISLAMABAD: Interim Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has reaffirmed that the responsibility for conducting general elections lies with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

During a media interaction in Islamabad, Solangi reportedly highlighted that the caretaker government is fully committed to supporting the ECP in its efforts to organise transparent and fair elections whenever they are held.

Solangi stated, “following the cabinet meeting, I had a discussion with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, where we focused on matters that contribute to ensuring transparent elections in the country.”

Underscoring the election process, he disclosed, “a decision has been reached that on the day of polling, the first vote will be cast by the caretaker prime minister, followed by the members of the interim cabinet.”

He stressed that the country will operate in accordance with its constitution, and the interim government will oversee national affairs until the incoming government assumes power.

Commenting on the recent incident in Jaranwala, Solangi strongly condemned the violence and expressed solidarity with the minority communities. He assured, “the state stands firmly with all citizens, and any form of discrimination based on caste, creed, or religion will not be tolerated.”
