GUJRAT: Today’s by-election in PP-32 Gujrat is set to witness a political showdown within the Elahi family, as former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi gears up to compete against his nephew, Musa Elahi, who is representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

The contest for this seat arose after Chaudhry Salik Hussain retained his National Assembly position, leaving PP-32 vacant. Last month, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi announced his decision to participate in the by-polls.
Family members of the Elahi clan visited Parvez Elahi in jail to endorse his candidacy, and getting his nomination papers signed for the upcoming election.
Expressing his discontent during an informal exchange with journalists at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) court, Elahi criticised the ban on meetings in Adiala Jail with the PTI founder and former chairman Imran Khan.

Labeling it unconstitutional, he accused the authorities of undermining the people’s trust by manipulating PTI’s mandate, and further exacerbating their already compromised self-esteem.
Elahi went on to predict that Form-45 would serve as a trap for what he referred to as “fake rulers”.
