Sheikh Rasheed’s Lal Haveli sealed by Evacuee Trust

RAWALPINDI:  Residence of Former Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, Lal Haveli has been sealed by the Evacuee Trust Property Board.

According to sources, a team from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and two police vehicles arrived at iconic Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi for the property’s eviction.

The sources indicated that the FIA team, led by Assistant Director Sajid and comprising six members, was deployed for the operation.

The decision to proceed with the operation was initiated by the Evacuee Trust Property Board and was scheduled to commence at 6 am today. The board had sought assistance from the FIA, the Anti-Corruption Establishment, and local police to carry out the operation.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Administrator of the Evacuee Trust stated that Sheikh Rasheed and his brother have been illegally occupying the property of the of the Evacuee Trust. He added that they failed to produce legal documents related to Lal Haveli.

LHC seeks reply over arrest of Sheikh Rashid, nephew

Earlier on Wednesday, the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court requested responses within three days from both the Punjab and federal governments, as well as senior provincial law enforcement officials, regarding the arrest of Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League and former interior minister, and his nephew.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan presided over the hearing of the case concerning Sheikh Rasheed’s arrest at the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court. During the proceedings, petitioner Sardar Abdul Razzq alleged that Rashid and his nephew had been taken into custody by plainclothes personnel and Rawalpindi police.

Additionally, Razzq stated that despite a 48-hour timeframe, Sheikh Rasheed had not been presented before any court of law.

The court has sought answers from the concerned parties regarding the recovery of Sheikh Rashid, his nephew Sheikh Shakir, and staff member Imran.
