ISLAMABAD: The fourth round of talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) concluded on Tuesday without any progress due to the absence of PTI members.
Speaking to the media following the inconclusive talks, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stated that the dialogue could not proceed in the absence of the PTI representatives.
“I hope the talks will resume, and the government’s negotiation committee will remain intact,” the NA speaker said, emphasizing the need for dialogue to resolve political issues.
PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser had declined to participate in the meeting despite that Ayaz Sadiq had personally reached out to both leaders over the phone, inviting them to the talks.
However, Omar Ayub rejected the invitation, insisting that negotiations could only move forward after the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 and November 26 incidents.
Siddiqui warns of dissolving negotiation committee if PTI avoids fourth round of talks
PTI’s Barrister Gohar had earlier announced that the party would not participate in the talks, citing Imran Khan’s refusal to continue due to the government’s failure to establish the judicial commission.
Despite PTI’s stance, Ayaz Sadiq convened the fourth session in the hopes of resuming dialogue. He reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving political issues through discussions without preconditions.
The speaker urged PTI to reconsider its position and rejoin the dialogue, emphasizing that the negotiation committee would not be disbanded for now.
