IHC disposes plea after Gandapur meets Imran Khan

GANDAPUR MEETS IMRAN KHAN

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday disposed of a contempt petition filed against authorities for allegedly preventing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur from meeting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, after the court was informed that the meeting had taken place.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the contempt plea filed by Gandapur, who had accused jail officials of defying court orders by not facilitating his meeting with Imran Khan despite judicial permission.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel, Raja Zahoorul Hassan, along with jail officials, appeared before the court.

Justice Tahir inquired if the meeting had taken place and was informed that it occurred as per the schedule with the counsel requesting that future meetings be allowed without hindrance as well.

The counsel further argued that Gandapur, as the KP chief minister, needed regular consultations with the PTI founder, especially with the upcoming budget session. “There are many matters to discuss, and he should be permitted to meet [the PTI founder] as required,” he said.

After a brief exchange with jail authorities, the court disposed of Gandapur’s petition with instructions to ensure compliance with judicial orders regarding future meetings.

The case stemmed from earlier allegations that jail authorities had obstructed Gandapur’s attempts to meet the PTI founder despite a court directive permitting such interactions.
