ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court on Wednesday rejected Imran Khan’s appeal in a case concerning threats made against Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
Judge Abbas Khan, who had reserved the decision, officially announced on Wednesday that Khan’s appeal in the case was dismissed. The legal proceedings were initiated following Imran’s public threat against Judge Zeba Chaudhry and other officials during a rally at Islamabad Park in 2022. The criticism was directed at the judge’s decision to remand Shahbaz Gill.

The charges against Imran Khan encompass sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke, breach peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code. Additionally, sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) and 189 (threat of injury to a public servant) are included.
Following the legal action, Imran Khan issued an apology, acknowledging that his remarks against the female judge were made in the heat of the moment during a political speech.
Imran’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, argued that the case was politically motivated, and given the apology tendered by Khan, there should be no further proceedings. However, despite the apology, the District and Sessions Court maintained its decision to dismiss the appeal, signalling the continuation of the case.
