Imran’s lawyer says prosecution stalling GHQ case; Faraz announces Feb protest

ISLAMABAD: Lawyer of former premier Imran Khan, Muhammad Faisal Malik, spoke to media outside Adiala jail today. He said that the statement of another witness in the GHQ case was recorded today.

“Basically, there is an allegation of conspiracy in this case. I have requested the court [to consider] that no evidence has been presented yet regarding the conspiracy,” Malik said.

Imran Khan’s counsel said that the prosecution has told the court that some USBs have to be submitted as evidence in this case. “Before presenting any evidence [to the court], its copies are provided to the accused or defense lawyers. We have requested the court to provide us with copies of it first as well, which the court has accepted,” he informed, adding that before today the prosecution had never mentioned any USBs.

“When the trial started, we were not provided with any video or USB,” he said, adding, “So far, only circumstantial evidence has been presented in this case.” The main case of the prosecution is the planning of May 9, lawyer Faisal Malik said, adding that the prosecution has not yet been able to present any documents or evidence regarding the planning.

The lawyer said that Imran Khan’s team has also requested to interrogate Bushra Bibi in November 26 [protest] cases from jail. The court has also accepted that request, he informed.

SHIBLI FARAZ ANNOUNCES PTI PROTEST

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shibli Faraz also spoke to media outside Adiala Jail and accused the government of trying to build an environment against PTI and Imran Khan.

He said, “12 judges are being appointed to the Supreme Court. An environment is being created so that people of their choice are placed in the courts so that neither PTI nor Imran Khan can get justice.”

He said that PTI leaders have been given instructions regarding the upcoming February 8 protest. Earlier, PTI filed a permission request to hold a protest rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore.

Shibli Faraz also said that the verdict in the Al-Qadir Trust case shows that punishments are being given under a specific agenda. “The truth will come out with the formation of a judicial commission, [the current] government cannot last for a day then,” he said.

The PTI leader also alleged that the government is acting sluggishly in forming the commission. He also shared his statement from the Senate session yesterday, regarding the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Act and said, “PECA Act is an attempt to suppress the voice of truth.”

IMPORTANT MEETING AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is meeting with PTI leaders at the parliament house. PTI’s new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president, Junaid Akbar, along with other party leaders including Atif Khan, Noor Alam and Arbab Sher Ali are present in the meeting.

Fourth round of negotiations concludes sans PTI

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Nafisa Shah is also attending the meeting.

The meeting comes after PTI’s announcement that they are calling off the negotiations with the government, and the government alliance announcing that they are not ending the talks with the opposition.
