ISLAMABAD: Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal has raised concerns regarding the nomination of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar by the coalition government.
In a letter to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Mengal, a key figure in Balochistan politics, expressed his reservations about former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif’s choice for the nomination.
Highlighting his apprehensions, Mengal stated, “The nomination of Kakar has widened division between us and the PML-N.

He said that “the lessons from our past experiences should have guided us better.” He criticized the handling of governance by the ruling party, stating that the legislation process lacked the trust of allied parties.
Mengal further cautioned that weakening democratic institutions would ultimately lead to a decay of democracy itself, likening it to “placing the final nail in the coffin of democracy.”
He stressed that any legislation against human rights could potentially be misused, emphasising the importance of ensuring the proper balance between lawmaking and safeguarding fundamental rights.
While referring to the Central Coordination Committee meeting, Mengal highligted Balochistan’s population, asserting that the reported digital census had deliberately showed the provincial population approximately at 7.3 million.
