PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor has signed on a summary accepting the resignation of 25 cabinet members of the caretaker provincial government, sources at the KP Governor’s House confirmed.
Among the members who had submitted their resignations were 15 ministers, four advisers and six special assistants.
In the wake of these resignations, the interim KP chief minister has initiated consultations to begin the process of forming a new interim cabinet, sources said.
The entire KP interim cabinet submitted their collective resignation on Thursday following allegations of their involvement in political activities.
KP’s caretaker cabinet resigns en masse
The caretaker cabinet, consisting of 26 members encompassing ministers, advisors, and special assistants, took this step in response to the call made by KP Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan.
The KP interim cabinet had been formed in the months of January and February, subsequent to the dissolution of the provincial assembly.
Earlier, KP Caretaker Information Minister Feroze Jamal Kakakhel said that the caretaker chief minister held a meeting with his cabinet members on Thursday, seeking their resignations.
As stated by Kakakhel, 19 ministers in the cabinet had already submitted their resignations to the chief minister.
Meanwhile, those members who were not physically present during the meeting had conveyed their intention to provide their resignations, he had said. One cabinet member had asked for additional time for consultation before finalising his decision
Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan had sent a letter to CM KP to de-notify caretaker ministers, assistants, and advisers involved in politics.
