LAHORE: Today, the Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear bail pleas of former chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in eight cases pertaining to May 9 events.
Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Saleem will preside over the hearing. The incarcerated former premier has filed the petitions through his lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar. Imran Khan contends that the charges imposed on him are conspiracy for political revenge.
PLEA TO EXPEDITE HEARINGS
Earlier in March, Barrister Salman Safdar had filed in a plea in the LHC, on behalf of Imran Khan, for early scheduling of bail applications’ hearings.
Imran Khan moves high court for early scheduling of bail hearings
In his plea, Imran Khan argued that the delay in scheduling hearings is part of a conspiracy aimed at political revenge – a defense he is also using in the main charges of the cases. The petition claims that despite the notice issued to the police, hearings are not being scheduled.
Barrister Safdar has filed various applications in cases related to Jinnah House attack as well.
The bail pleas were last heard on January 16. Afterwards notices were issued to the police but the bail applications have not been scheduled for hearing since. Imran Khan contends in the plea that the bail applications should be scheduled for hearing immediately. “It is a common law that not only justice should be done but also seen to be done,” the petition said, requesting the court to schedule the bail applications in the eight cases of May 9 for early hearing.
