LAYYAH: As Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday announced establishment of a medical college in Layyah, she said it was Nawaz Sharif, who made Pakistan a nuclear power.
Nations are not destroyed by bombs or missiles, they are devastated by fitna, said Maryam in Layyah, where she addressed a ceremony held in connection with distribution of laptops and scholarships among the deserving students.
She was obviously referring to Imran Khan – the incarcerated PTI founding chairman – without naming it.
To prove her point, the chief minister said their [Imran’s] children were living abroad, but they used those of others to damage the country.
Friday also saw an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad sentencing a PTI lawmaker and workers in a May 9-related case, where the convicts had attacked a police station.
Maryam said those sowing the seeds were the enemies of the nation and told the audience that “only the one who thinks about you is sincere to you”.
MEDICAL COLLEGE
Responding to a long-standing public demand, the chief minister told the gathering that the government would set up a medical college in Layyah, with its construction to be started soon.

Maryam said she wanted to ensure that none of the youth should be denied access to technology, as she announced increasing the number of scholarship from 30,000 to 50,000.
At the same time, she reiterated her government’s stance to provide all the necessary facilities in schools across the province.
NUCLEAR POWER
The chief minister said no one could harm Pakistan since Nawaz – the three-time former prime minister – had made the country a nuclear power.
About the recent Pakistan-India war, Maryam said the PAF had shot down Indian Rafale fighter jets and especially mentioned Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu for their role in making the Operation Bunyanum Marsoos a success.
