Miftah Ismail urges peaceful resolution amid political turmoil

Islamabad

KARACHI: Senior political leader Miftah Ismail has called for both the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to resolve their ongoing disputes peacefully, emphasising the toll on the people and economy.

Addressing a gathering in Karachi today, Ismail noted that road closures, such as the one that prevented former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi from reaching Islamabad today, are just one symptom of the escalating political tensions.

“The country is suffering. Two major political forces are at odds with each other, while the people bear the brunt,” said Ismail, urging the government to allow PTI to hold peaceful protests. He also called on PTI to renounce violence and pursue peaceful demonstrations.

With the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Islamabad only a few days away, Ismail pointed out that the nation is watching, and it is crucial for both sides to take a step back and manage the situation responsibly.

He also expressed concerns about the constitutional amendment that the government is pushing for, claiming that members of the assembly are unaware of its full implications. He opined that the amendments could introduce a new court system, and he warned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to consider the long-term consequences of the laws they are supporting.
