LAHORE: Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has been elected as the unopposed president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).
Nawaz Sharif had stepped down as the president of the PML-N six years ago due to a Supreme Court ruling in the Panama Papers case disqualifying him as the country’s prime minister in 2017.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Rana Sanaullah, has released the final list of candidates, confirming Nawaz Sharif as the sole contender for the position
The election process began with the scrutiny of nomination papers, after which the final list of candidates was announced.

As no other candidates were in the running, Nawaz Sharif has been elected unopposed, as per the party’s internal procedures.
The official announcement of Nawaz Sharif being elected as PML-N president will be made during the upcoming General Council meeting. This meeting will serve not only as a platform for the formal declaration but also for the ratification of Sharif’s presidency by the General Council members through a show of hands, affirming his leadership within the party.
Incumbent PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif stepped down from his position earlier this month.
