Nawaz Sharif finalises name of caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has made significant progress in finalising the appointment of the caretaker prime minister.

As the process enters its final stages, Nawaz Sharif is engaging in consultations with prominent political figures, including Asif Ali Zardari and Fazlur Rehman, to discuss the crucial appointment.

Recently, Sharif also held extensive discussions with his brother Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the matter. Following the consultations, three names were forwarded to PM Shehbaz, with a strict instruction not to disclose the selected candidate until a meeting with the opposition leaders.

The next crucial step is for Shehbaz to meet with the opposition leader within the next 36 hours. If consensus is reached during this meeting, the announcement of the caretaker prime minister will be made accordingly.

However, in case a consensus remains elusive, the proposed names will be submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for consideration and selection.

It is important to note that even after the assembly’s dissolution, Shehbaz will continue serving as the prime minister until a consensus is reached on the caretaker prime minister. His tenure will persist until the ECP officially announces the selected candidate for this significant interim position.
