Imran Khan adiala meetings

RAWALPINDI: A four-member team of medical professionals, headed by ENT specialist Dr Altaf Hussain, from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visited Imran Khan in Adiala Jail yesterday (Monday) for his medical check-up.

Other members of the team included Dr Umar Farooq from the hospital’s Dental Department, Dr Muhammad Ali Arif from General Medicine and Dr Tashfeen Imtiaz from General Surgery, DAWN News reported.

The team stayed with the former prime minister for about half an hour.

The medical team’s visit comes after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members hurling allegations of ill treatment being extended to the former PTI chairman in Adiala Jail. PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, in particular, claimed that Imran Khan has been put in solitary confinement.

Such allegations further caught attention when Imran Khan’s personal physician was not allowed to visit him. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had also said that the jail authorities are going to shift Imran Khan to a different location.

However, there is no official word lending credibility to any of these allegations, and today the medical team has also been allowed to visit the incarcerated former chairman of the opposition party.
