PML-N goes nuclear; hammers PTI in back-to-back explosive speeches

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar started the series of press addresses on Sunday by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, highlighting achievements of the current government, while delivering a scathing critique of the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration.

“My people are my strength. Because of you people, we are making good decisions today,” Tarar said. “When Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took office, the country was in a dire state. People were betting that this country would default, or that the country would go bankrupt, there would be inflation and the situation would become worse,” the information minister said, adding, “People preferred their politics over this state. But Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif preferred the state over politics.”

He said, “I have seen the Prime Minister struggle for your rights. He fulfilled his promises to you and made electricity cheaper. Inflation has come to the lowest level.” The information minister said that Pakistan will be among the best economies in the world, and reduction in electricity prices will increase exports.

‘SOME PEOPLE MADE BASELESS PROMISES FOR CHEAP FAME’

Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani took the stage next and said that immediately after Eid, the electricity prices have been reduced significantly. “The reduction in electricity prices will benefit every Pakistani and the effects of the price reduction will be seen soon. Electricity prices have been reduced in a sustainable manner,” Kayani added.

“This journey of providing relief to the people will continue. In the past, some people used to make baseless promises for cheap fame. We have fulfilled our promises before and are still doing so,” he said.

He added that the government of Punjab is working hard under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. “The roads of our villages have become beautiful. Work is also underway on the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway. The rest of the economy will continue at the same pace. International organisations are also praising the Pakistani economy,” Minister of State for Railways said.

‘THE COUNTRY WAS HANDED OVER TO INCOMPETENT PEOPLE BY INSTALLING RTS’

Punjab Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also made a speech today on electricity prices and PTI government’s ‘abysmal’ performance. Addressing media in Lahore, she said, “The gift that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave to the people by reducing electricity prices is nothing short of a miracle. This was not a one-day job. It was a task that was accomplished while the country is undergoing an International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. Still, the prime minister has made sure to provide relief to the people.”

“Shahbaz Sharif is being paid tribute to from all sides,” Aurangzeb said, adding that even those who are not related to the PML-N are also praising Shahbaz Sharif for his performance. “He and his team have worked tirelessly. Nawaz Sharif had promised that when the [PML-N] government comes, he would reduce electricity prices and reduce inflation. He does not make false promises. He makes only those promises that the PML-N can fulfill,” Marriyum Aurangzeb said.

Talking a jab at PTI’s administration, she said that the economy runs on trust and credibility. “When our government came [into power], the incompetent people who ruled the country for four and a half years [before us] had increased inflation.”

She said that in 2015, PML-N had completed an IMF program, which has ended terrorism, reduced inflation, and had brought down the unit price of electricity at Rs11. But then the country was “handed over to [PTI] by installing RTS”.

“Then what happened to the country is in front of you,” Aurangzeb said, adding, “Terrorism returned, growth rate became negative, inflation increased, and the country was overwhelmed by debt.” She said that the PML-N government has implemented projects worth billions of rupees, including a network of roads, schools, and universities.
