Polling for senate by-elections underway


The Senate is set to convene on Monday (today) at 9 am, as newly elected members prepare to take their oath of office.

ISLAMABAD: Polling for Senate by-elections to fill six vacant seats has commenced simultaneously in the National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan assemblies.

The polling for one seat in Islamabad, two in Sindh, and three in Balochistan will continue until 4 PM.

The Special Secretary of the Election Commission in Islamabad is performing the duty of the returning officer, while the Provincial Election Commissioners in Balochistan and Sindh are ensuring the smooth conduct of affairs.

Senate by-elections on six vacant seats today

So far JUI-F Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, PPP Anusha Rehman, PPP Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, PPP Ramesh Lal, PPP Shehla Raza, and Amir Dogar of Sunni Iteehad Council have cast their votes.

The race for Islamabad’s seat is between Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chaudhry Elias Mehmood from the Sunni Ittehad Council.

A total of 311 members of the National Assembly will cast their votes in the Senate by-elections.

The polling for the seats in Sindh and Balochistan is ongoing in their respective provincial assemblies.
