PPP wins Hyderabad LG polls unopposed

HYDRABAD: The ruling Pakistan People’s Party in Sindh has won the Mayor and Deputy Mayor sots unopposed in Hyderabad – the province’s second largest city.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared Kashid Shoru and Sagheer Qureshi as winners for both the seats respectively earlier today after withdrawal of candidatures by other contestants whereas nomination papers of candidates hailing Tehreek e Labaik were rejected.
In this regard, ECP has also issued notification. Kashif Shoru took to social media to announce his victory in Mayoral election. Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani has felicitated both the winners over their victory.
It is worth mentioning here that PPP leader Nisar Khoru announced names of candidates for the slots of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for all cities of the province a few days back. PPP nominated Murtaza Wahab and Salman Murad as candidates for the offices of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Karachi respectively.
Election for the office of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Karachi are also going to be held today where strong contest is expected between Jamaat e Islami (JI) and PPP.
JI has fielded Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman as its candidate for Mayor office who also enjoys support from Pakistan Tehrek e Insaf (PTI) while Pakistan Muslim-Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulma e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have announced to support PPP.
