ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar accusing protesters of disrupting peace in Islamabad said that they were equipped with weapons
Speaking at a press conference, Tarar said the city’s residents had been besieged for days as protesters, equipped with weapons, tear gas shells, slingshots, and stones, violated the Islamabad High Court’s order banning protests.
“The government offered the protesters an alternate location at Sangjani for their demonstration, but they had no interest in a peaceful protest,” he stated.
Tarar alleged that the protest resulted in attacks on police and Rangers personnel, leading to the martyrdom of four rangers.
“Who is responsible for the blood of our martyrs?” he asked, criticizing the dissemination of false narratives on social media about deaths and injuries. He said if any protestors were killed they should present evidence.

The minister disclosed that authorities had arrested 37 Afghan nationals involved in the protests, questioning their presence at the demonstrations.
“We have friendly relations with Afghanistan, but why were Afghans participating in protests in Islamabad?” Tarar asked.
Addressing national security, Tarar blamed the PTI government for reintroducing the Taliban during its tenure, which he said contributed to the ongoing wave of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister for neglecting peace efforts in the province, where terrorism remains a serious concern.
He also highlighted recent tragedies, such as the killing of 50 people in Kurram, contrasting them with the protesters’ actions in the capital.
“Their protests are not for public demands but to protect their leader,” he remarked.
