ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has terminated the basic membership of Salman Ahmad, a Pakistani-American musician and activist, citing his alleged dissemination of “unwarranted and scurrilous posts on social media”.
In an official notification issued by the PTI’s central secretariat, the party accused Ahmad of using social media platforms, including X, to post “unwarranted and scurrilous posts” aimed at creating division among PTI supporters.

The statement also highlighted Ahmad’s criticism of the family of PTI’s Founder Chairman, Imran Khan.
The notification stated, “Despite repeated warnings and dissociation from your conduct, you continued to post objectionable content against the party and its leadership. Your actions violated explicit instructions from the party and its chairman.”
It added that Ahmad had been repeatedly cautioned through press releases from the PTI Core Committee to cease his objectionable behavior but had defied those warnings.

As a result, the party officially expelled Salman Ahmad, terminating his basic membership with immediate effect. The notice, signed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar further instructed Ahmad to refrain from claiming any affiliation with PTI in the future.

It may be added here that PTI has been grappling with internal challenges since its founder gave a “final call” for holding nationwide protest on November 24.
A large caravan of PTI, comprising of Imran Khan’s wife Bursha Bibi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reached at D-Chowk Islamabad but they fled after the government launched an operation to clear off the area.
This event marked the beginning of greater division among the party, as the PTI workers and supporters resorted to criticize Gandapur and Bushra Bibi for leaving them alone at D-Chowk when they had been making tall claims of not leaving the ground until the release of Imran Khan from jail.
