ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), headed by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, presided over the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party elections case.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and the complainant Akbar S Babar appeared before the ECP along with other parties concerned.
Member KP asked, “Who is running the affairs of PTI? The name of Salman Akram Raja comes in the media, what is [his position] in the party?” He also said that PTI’s intra-party elections are controversial.
Barrister Gohar replied, “We are only running the affairs under indoor management,” adding that once the ECP issues the certificate, only then this matter will be resolved.

Member ECP responded, “Get the High Court to lift the stay order.”
Barrister Gohar responded that there is no stay order regarding the proceedings of this case. To this the Member ECP said, “This case is not a trial.”
Member KP added, “It is not possible to reserve the verdict on it and wait for the court’s decision.” Speaking to Barrister Gohar, he added, “The documents you have submitted are not complete.”
At this point, Akbar S Babar spoke, “This is a matter of public importance. The ECP has also declared the intra-party election as a dispute in the Supreme Court. We want the ECP to give its decision on this today.”
After hearing arguments, the ECP adjourned the hearing of the case until April 8.
