PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: Ahead of the November 24 protest call by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reports have emerged of disagreements in the district organisation of the party in Peshawar.
PTI Peshawar chapter Senior Vice President Malik Aslam and General Secretary Taqdir Ali have resigned from their posts. Taqdir Ali also announced his resignation in a video message shared on social media.
The senior vice president has submitted his handwritten resignation to the party leadership as well, reports said. The resignations are being said to have come over disputes in distribution of posts, and more resignations from the Peshawar district are expected to follow in the coming days.
The central leadership of the party is trying to persuade the resigned officials to rescind their decision, sources said.
Talking to the media, President PTI Peshawar Region Arbab Asim said that there are minor differences in the party. The problem of division of posts will be resolved, he said.
PTI LEADERS’ ARREST
Meanwhile, the capital city police have started rounding up PTI leaders and workers ahead of the planned November 24 protest in Islamabad.
Media reports said that CCTV footage of police raids has surfaced, showing late-night raids on the homes of several leaders and workers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Dozens of workers including Shoaib Shaheen have reportedly been detained. PTI General Secretary Raja Ghazanfar has also been arrested.
