ISLAMABAD: Judge Abdul Hasnat Mohammad Zulqarnain of Anti-Terrorism Special Court-1 rejected a police request for 10 days of physical custody for PTI leaders and activists on Saturday, instead remanding them to jail for 14 days.

Kohsar police presented the accused, who were arrested on Friday, in court. The police argued that the accused had taken an anti-riot shield kit and tear gas gun, and that further custody was necessary to recover these items and identify other involved parties.

The court found the request for extended physical custody unjustified, Dawn news reported.

The arrested individuals, including Zia Ullah Khan, Raja Qasir Ghaffar, and others, were charged under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The police sought additional custody for recovery and investigation purposes, which the court denied, citing legal restrictions against unjustified detention.

The court ordered the accused to be held in judicial custody and to be presented again on June 29, 2024. The investigating officer was instructed to submit a challan within the specified period.
