PTI rejects ECP’s delimitation schedule

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the Election Commission of Pakistan’s delimitation schedule terming it a deviation from the constitution. The election commission’s decision suggests that the general election might not be conducted within the stipulated 90-day timeframe.

In a statement, a spokesperson of PTI said that if the National Assembly is dissolved ahead of schedule, the constitution obliges the election commission to organize elections within ninety days.

The statement further noted that the electoral regulatory body’s announcement aimed at prolonging the tenure of the interim government.

The PTI’sspokesperson also alleged that the Council of Common Interests (CCI) decision to carry out boundary redefinition based on the recent census was being exploited to postpone elections. Additionally, they asserted that the populace was being denied the opportunity to select a leader they prefer due to concerns about the PTI’s increasing popularity and backing.”
