WEB DESK: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Senator Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan, has joined the People’s Party, marking a significant political shift.

The announcement came after a meeting between Senator Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan and the Chairman of the People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

As per the information from Gilani House, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan is set to be the People’s Party candidate for the National Assembly seat NA-150.

This move adds a notable figure to the party’s roster as it prepares for upcoming political endeavours.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is scheduled to address the media at the residence of Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan today, highlighting the importance of this development within the political landscape.

Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan’s political journey has seen him contest three National Assembly elections due to his longstanding association with the Muslim League-N.

He secured a seat in the National Assembly twice in the 2002 and 2008 elections but faced defeat in 2013 against Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

In the subsequent by-election held in Multan in 2015, Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan emerged victorious as a member of the Provincial Assembly.

Meanwhile, former federal minister Daniyal Aziz has opted to contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the PML-N’s choice of candidate against him, Aziz stated that the party’s decision was influenced by internal disputes and a lack of capability in their chosen candidate.

He emphasised concerns over inflation, questioning the party’s ability to address critical issues.

Aziz further disclosed that he had several meetings with Shahbaz Sharif, challenging the narrative that attributed inflation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He cited personal experiences to assert that the PML-N had failed to effectively communicate their stance on inflation to the public.

The upcoming election in NA-76 promises to be a closely watched contest, with the decisions of influential figures like Senator Rana Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Daniyal Aziz shaping the political dynamics in their respective constituencies.
