ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially challenged the Supreme Court’s September 14 detailed verdict regarding the allocation of reserved seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies.
In a review petition submitted to the court, the ECP has asserted that it should not be held responsible for delays caused by judicial decisions.

The revision petition states that the clarification of the July 12 decision was filed on July 25. The revision petition was issued by the Supreme Court on September 14.
The ECP’s petition also claims that the court did not issue a notice to the Election Commission regarding the documents submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), nor did it ask the commission to respond to PTI’s submissions.
The petition added that the legislation enacted by Parliament came after the ECP had already sought clarification from the court.

In its submission, the ECP requests the Supreme Court to reconsider its September 14 explanation, arguing that a reassessment is necessary to ensure the proper interpretation of the judicial decision on reserved seats.
